01 Opening poem;
in—appropriate

poem by anetoo

what do you think about cultural appropriation?

is that an inappropriate question to ask?

do you ever take part in any debate about appropriation or what's appropriate?

take part – not take apart.

are you a part of the cultural (r)evolution?

if not – does that make you underdeveloped?

underdeveloped / under development.

does it matter?

that’s what gentrification looks like
– to me.

how do I look like to you?

that’s appropriation.

it's okay – just do it.

just include black people.

otherwise it would be inappropriate.

this is a black poem about people of color.

how in–appropriate.
