02 Feel free to fuck up

"Feel Free to Fuck Up" is more than just the title of a new documentary series – it’s a philosophy that runs through every part of the Aarhus-based cultural organisation Aarhus Volume.

Created by journalist Zina Hameed, this three-episode series follows the inspiring nine-year journey of a group of young cultural entrepreneurs who have transformed Aarhus’ underground scene into a vibrant hub for music, community, and creativity.

A Creative Collective with the Courage to Fail

Founded in 2016, Aarhus Volume quickly became a driving force in the city's urban cultural life. Based at Institut for (X) near Godsbanen, the collective has organized countless concerts, parties, and festivals — including the annual "Under Gaden" festival held beneath Ringgadebroen bridge.

Their work is rooted in a strong "do-it-yourself" spirit and the belief that it’s better to try and fail than never to try at all.
At Aarhus Volume, experimentation, learning, and growth go hand-in-hand. Their motto says it all: Feel free to fuck up — here, mistakes are part of the process, not the end of the road.

Volume Village: A Sustainable Cultural House Under the Bridge
In 2022, Aarhus Volume opened the doors to Volume Village — a multifunctional concert venue and cultural house located under the Ringgadebroen bridge in central Aarhus.
Designed with a focus on sustainability and flexibility, Volume Village offers a stage for young musicians, DJs, and event organizers working within hip hop, electronic music, and R&B.

More than just a venue, Volume Village is a gathering place for the city's creative souls.
Through events like the BETA festival and Kaleido, it has quickly become a cornerstone of Aarhus' dynamic cultural scene — a place where the ceiling is both physically and creatively high, and where everyone is invited to contribute.

The Documentary: A Raw and Honest Journey
"Feel Free to Fuck Up" offers an unfiltered look into the highs and lows of Aarhus Volume’s journey — from their first bold steps as young creatives to the realization of Volume Village.
The documentary captures the challenges, the victories, the setbacks, and most importantly, the passion and resilience that continue to drive the collective forward.

The series is available now on TV2 Østjylland and TV2 Play and is essential viewing for anyone interested in culture, community, and the real creative process.
